Japan’s Daio Paper starts up 300,000 tonne/yr paperboard machine, targeting Asian export markets

Daio Paper has announced the successful conversion and expansion of PM N7 at its Mishima mill in Ehime prefecture.

At the beginning of Q4 last year, the firm shut the 150,000 tonne/yr coated fine paper unit, and at the start of this month, it announced that it had restarted commercial production as a paperboard unit.

Its present capacity is 25,000 tonnes per month (300,000 tonnes/yr), though the firm had formerly given its target capacity as 360,000 tonnes/yr.

Daio explained that it aims to exploit export demand elsewhere in Asia, particularly China, with the overhaul.

The coastal Mishima mill is well-positioned to serve Chinese and Southeast Asian export markets.
